What Is It and When Do You Need It?
Picking a winner by hand invites doubts about fairness. A random picker removes the argument: you paste the names, press a button, and chance decides. It suits classroom helpers, raffles, giveaways and team tasks.
Paste your list, say how many winners you need and press the button.
How to Use This Tool
- Paste the names, one per line.
- Enter how many winners to pick.
- Choose whether to remove duplicate names.
- Press Pick.
How the Calculation Works
The list is cleaned of empty lines. If you choose, duplicates are removed (case-insensitive). The tool shuffles the list with the Fisher-Yates algorithm using unbiased random numbers and takes the first entries as winners, in order.
Worked Example
Given Asha, Bilal, Chen, Diego and Elena with 2 winners, the picker might return Chen then Asha. Pressing again gives a new draw.
Common Uses
- Giveaways and raffles.
- Choosing a student to answer.
- Assigning chores.
- Deciding who goes first.
Tips and Common Mistakes
- Remove duplicates if everyone should have the same chance.
- Keep a screen recording for public draws.
- Draw a few extra names as backup.
