What Is It and When Do You Need It?
The Magic 8 Ball is a classic fortune-telling toy from 1950. You ask a yes or no question, shake it and read the answer through a window. The answers are random, which is the joke.
Type a question and press the button. You get one of the 20 original answers.
How to Use This Tool
- Think of a yes or no question and type it.
- Press Shake.
- Read the answer.
- Shake again for a different one.
How the Calculation Works
The tool picks one of the 20 classic answers with equal chance. Ten answers are affirmative, five are noncommittal and five are negative, so about half of all answers say yes.
Worked Example
Asked "Should I order pizza tonight?", the ball might answer "It is certain" or "Reply hazy, try again". The next shake could be completely different.
