What Is It and When Do You Need It?
A random number generator makes numbers that nobody can predict. People use it for games, raffles, picking a winner, sampling data, teaching probability and settling arguments fairly.
Set the range and how many numbers you want. The tool uses unbiased selection, so every number in the range has exactly the same chance.
How to Use This Tool
- Enter the minimum and the maximum.
- Enter how many numbers you need.
- Choose whole numbers or decimals, and whether repeats are allowed.
- Press Generate and copy the list.
How the Calculation Works
Whole numbers are chosen with rejection sampling on 32-bit random values from the browser’s crypto source, which avoids the small bias of a simple modulo. Without repeats the tool shuffles the range with the Fisher-Yates method and takes the first numbers. Decimals are chosen uniformly and rounded to two places.
Worked Example
Asking for 6 unique numbers from 1 to 49 gives a lottery-style draw such as 7, 14, 23, 31, 38, 45. Asking for 3 whole numbers from 1 to 10 with repeats allowed might give 4, 4, 9.
