What Is It and When Do You Need It?
The zodiac sorts people by the date of birth into twelve signs. The western system uses the sun’s position through the year, the Chinese system uses a twelve-year cycle of animals, and each month has a traditional birthstone and flower. Many people enjoy knowing theirs, and it is a common question on forms and in conversation.
Enter a birth date and read all of these at once. The tool is for entertainment and culture, not a prediction.
How to Use This Tool
- Pick the date of birth.
- Press Find.
- Read the western sign, element and quality.
- See the Chinese animal, birthstone and flower.
How the Calculation Works
The western sign is found by comparing the month and day with the standard sign boundaries. The Chinese animal comes from the birth year, counted in a 12-year cycle starting from the Rat (for example 2020, 2008 and 1996 are Rat years). The birthstone and flower come from the birth month.
Worked Example
Born on 15 August 1990: the western sign is Leo, a fire sign with a fixed quality. The Chinese animal is the Horse (1990). The birthstone is peridot and the birth flower is gladiolus.
