What Is It and When Do You Need It?

The difference between two dates is the time that separates them. People need it to count days until a deadline, the length of a contract, the days since an event or the length of a trip. Because months have 28 to 31 days, the answer in months and days is hard to do by hand.

Pick two dates and read the gap in several units at once.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Choose the start date.
  2. Choose the end date.
  3. Select whether to include the end date.
  4. Press Calculate.

How the Calculation Works

Total days are the difference between the two calendar day numbers, plus one if you include the end date. The years, months and days form is worked out by subtracting year, month and day and borrowing from the previous month. Working days are counted by walking through each day and skipping Saturdays and Sundays.

Worked Example

From 1 January 2026 to 2 November 2026 there are 305 days, which is 10 months and 1 day, or 43 weeks and 4 days. Of those days, 217 are working days.
