What Is It and When Do You Need It?
A time card records when you start and finish work, and the total decides your pay. Adding up many shifts with breaks by hand is slow, and rounding errors add up over a month. Employers, freelancers and shift workers all need accurate totals.
Write one shift per line and the tool gives the hours for each shift, the grand total and, if you want, the pay.
How to Use This Tool
- Type one shift per line: start time, end time and break minutes.
- Optionally enter the daily overtime limit and an hourly rate.
- Press Calculate.
- Copy the total in the format your payroll needs.
How the Calculation Works
Times are converted to minutes after midnight. Worked minutes are end minus start (adding 1,440 if the shift passes midnight) minus the break. The total is shown as hours and minutes and as decimal hours, which are minutes divided by 60. Pay is decimal hours times the rate.
Worked Example
The three shifts 09:00 to 17:30 with 30 minutes, 09:15 to 18:00 with 45 minutes and 08:30 to 16:30 with no break come to 8:00 + 8:00 + 8:00 = 24 hours, or 24.00 decimal hours. At a rate of 15 the pay is 360.

Tips and Common Mistakes
