What Is It and When Do You Need It?
Upside-down text is a classic bit of online fun. It uses real Unicode characters, so you can paste it into messages, profile names and comments.
Type your message and copy the flipped result.
How to Use This Tool
- Type your text.
- Choose whether to reverse the order.
- Press Flip.
- Copy the result.
How the Calculation Works
Each character is replaced by its upside-down look-alike from a lookup table, for example a to ɐ, b to q, e to ǝ, h to ɥ, and ? to ¿. Characters without a twin stay as they are. The line is then reversed so that, when you rotate the screen, it reads left to right.
Worked Example
Hello world becomes plɹoʍ ollǝH.
Common Uses
- Fun messages and bios.
- Jokes and puzzles.
- Social posts.
- Teaching Unicode.
Tips and Common Mistakes
- Short phrases look best.
- Capital letters have fewer good twins.
- Test your text in the app you will use.
- If you want the letters flipped but the words left to right, turn off the reverse option, although the result will then read oddly when you turn the screen.
- Fonts differ: if you see empty boxes instead of letters, the font on that device does not have the flipped characters.
