What Is It and When Do You Need It?
Journalists, students and researchers often need every quotation from a long text. Doing it by eye is slow and easy to get wrong.
Paste the text and pick the quote types.
How to Use This Tool
- Enter or paste your input in the box or boxes above.
- Choose the options, if there are any.
- Press the button to run the tool.
- Read the result and use the copy button where one is shown.
How the Calculation Works
The tool scans the text for opening quote marks and finds the matching closing mark. Each pair gives one quotation. For single quotes it requires the opening mark to follow a space, an opening bracket or the start, so apostrophes are skipped. The quotes are numbered in the order they appear.
Worked Example
In He said "come here" and she said "no". the tool finds come here and no.
