What Is It and When Do You Need It?

Emoji are everywhere in modern text, but not every system can handle them. Removing them gives plain text that works in older databases and formal documents.

Paste your text and choose whether to remove text faces too.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Enter or paste your input in the box or boxes above.
  2. Choose the options, if there are any.
  3. Press the button to run the tool.
  4. Read the result and use the copy button where one is shown.

How the Calculation Works

The tool first removes flag pairs and keycap sequences, then every Extended Pictographic character with its skin tone modifier, variation selector and zero-width joiner. If you ask, it also removes common emoticons that sit between spaces or at the ends of words. Finally it tidies spaces.

Worked Example

Great job 👍🏽 :) see you 🇮🇳 becomes Great job see you when both options are used.

Tips and Common Mistakes

  • Joined emoji such as families are removed as one.
  • Use the text statistics counter to count emoji first.
  • Check the first result against a case you already know, so you can trust the tool for the rest.
  • Nothing you type leaves your device. The work is done by your browser, so it also works with a slow connection once the page has loaded.

Next, you may need the text statistics counter, invisible character remover, character counter, text repeater.
