What Is It and When Do You Need It?

Letter games are fun and also test your spelling and vocabulary. Puzzle makers and teachers use these checks all the time.

Type a word or sentence. Add letters to avoid if you want the lipogram test.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Enter or paste your input in the box or boxes above.
  2. Choose the options, if there are any.
  3. Press the button to run the tool.
  4. Read the result and use the copy button where one is shown.

How the Calculation Works

The text is changed to upper case, accents are removed and only A to Z are kept. A table of how often each letter occurs is built. If every letter has a count of 0 or 1 it is an isogram. If all 26 letters occur at least once it is a pangram. The lipogram test checks that none of the chosen letters occur.

Worked Example

lumberjack is an isogram. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog is a pangram. Dad is not an isogram because d repeats.

  • For anagram checks use the anagram checker.
  • Check the first result against a case you already know, so you can trust the tool for the rest.
  • Nothing you type leaves your device. The work is done by your browser, so it also works with a slow connection once the page has loaded.

Next, you may need the anagram checker, palindrome checker, character counter, text repeater.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, stored or sent to any outside service.
