How the Calculation Works

The date is split into year, month and day, and the weekday is found from the day count. Each format is built from those parts using the month and weekday names. In a custom pattern, tokens are swapped for values from longest to shortest so that MMMM is not read as MM.

5 January 2025 is 2025-01-05 in ISO, 01/05/2025 in the US style and 05/01/2025 in the European style.
