What Is FAQ Schema?
FAQ schema is structured data that tells search engines a page contains a list of questions and their answers. It is written in JSON-LD, a small block of code placed in the page, and it follows the FAQPage type defined on schema.org. The visible text is for people, and the schema is for machines.
Writing that code by hand is tedious, and a missing comma breaks it. This FAQ schema generator turns plain questions and answers into correct JSON-LD, with special characters escaped for you.
How to Use This FAQ Schema Generator
- Write each question on one line, and its answer on the next line.
- Leave one blank line between each question and answer pair.
- Press Generate schema.
- Use the Copy button and paste the result into your page, inside the head or the body.
Input and Output
| You write | The tool creates |
|---|---|
| A question on the first line of a block | A Question entry with the name property |
| The lines below it | An Answer entry with the text property |
| A blank line | The start of the next question |
| Quotes, ampersands and angle brackets | Safe escaped characters, so the script cannot break the page |
The type and its properties are defined in the FAQPage definition on schema.org.
What to Expect From Google
Since 2023, Google shows FAQ rich results mainly for well-known government and health websites, so most sites will not get the expandable questions in search results. The markup is still valid, it can help other search and answer engines understand the page, and it does no harm when the questions are visible on the page.
- Match the page. The questions and answers in the markup must also appear in the visible text.
- One question, one answer. Use FAQ markup only for questions the site itself answers, not for user-submitted ones.
- No advertising. Answers should not be promotional text.
Tips for Writing Good FAQs
Use the questions your customers really ask: look at emails, chat logs and search suggestions. Answer in the first sentence, then add detail. Keep each answer clear and short, and do not repeat the same question in different words.
Related Tools
After adding the markup, make sure the page loads with the status code checker and review its other tags with the meta tag review. For writing the answers, the keyword density checker shows which words you lean on. If you work with other JSON data, try the schema generator for JSON.
Why Use a Generator?
Structured data is unforgiving: one missing quote or bracket makes the whole block invalid. A generator removes that risk, and it escapes characters that could break your page. Write your questions once, and reuse the same text for the visible FAQ and for the markup.
