Rhombus Calculator: Area, Side, Perimeter and Angles

This free rhombus calculator finds the area, side, perimeter and angles of a rhombus from its two diagonals, or the diagonals from a side and an angle.

What Is It and When Do You Need It?

A rhombus is a tilted square. Diamonds on playing cards, kite designs and tile patterns are rhombuses.

Enter the two diagonals, or a side and an angle.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Enter the value or values asked for in the boxes.
  2. Choose the unit label if there is a choice.
  3. Press Calculate.
  4. Read every result in the table and copy what you need.

How the Calculation Works

From diagonals: side = ½√(p² + q²), area = pq ÷ 2, perimeter = 4 × side, and the acute angle = 2 × arctan(shorter ÷ longer). From a side s and angle θ: diagonals are 2s sin(θ ÷ 2) and 2s cos(θ ÷ 2), and area = s² sin θ.

Worked Example

Diagonals 6 and 8 give a side of 5, an area of 24, a perimeter of 20 and angles of 73.74° and 106.26°.

Common Uses

  • Tiles and patterns.
  • Kite and logo design.
  • Geometry homework.
  • Crafts.

Tips and Common Mistakes

  • The diagonals are perpendicular, which makes right triangles.
  • Angles add up to 360° around the shape.
  • An angle of 90° gives a square.
  • Measure carefully: a small error in a length is squared in an area and cubed in a volume, so a 5 percent error in a side can become a 10 percent error in the area or a 15 percent error in the volume.
  • Round only at the end. If you copy a result into another calculation, copy the full number from the tool rather than a rounded one, so small errors do not build up.

Next, you may need the trapezoid calculator, rectangle calculator, regular polygon calculator, circle calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

A four-sided shape with all four sides equal. Opposite angles are equal, and the diagonals cross at right angles.
Area = p × q ÷ 2, half the product of the diagonals.
The diagonals cut the rhombus into four right triangles, so side = ½ √(p² + q²).
Yes. A square is a rhombus with equal diagonals and right angles.
