What Is It and When Do You Need It?
Markdown tables are tedious to type. Every cell needs pipes and a separator row. Copying from a spreadsheet and converting is far faster.
Paste the data and copy the table.
How to Use This Tool
- Paste CSV or spreadsheet data with the header row first.
- Choose the separator, or leave it on automatic.
- Choose alignment and padding.
- Press Generate and copy the table.
How the Calculation Works
The text is split into rows and cells, respecting double quotes. The first row becomes the header. A separator row is added with alignment colons. If padding is on, every column is padded to its widest cell so the table is readable as plain text.
Worked Example
Three rows of Name, Role and City become a table with a header, a separator line and two body rows.
Common Uses
- README and wiki pages.
- GitHub issues and pull requests.
- Documentation.
- Notes and blogs.
Tips and Common Mistakes
- Keep cells short for readability.
- Use line breaks sparingly; Markdown tables are one line per row.
- Check how your Markdown renderer treats alignment.
