What Is It and When Do You Need It?
Temperature measures how hot or cold something is. Celsius is used in most of the world, Fahrenheit in the United States, and Kelvin in science, where zero is absolute zero.
This converter handles 4 units for kelvin and shows the result in all of them at once, so you rarely need a second lookup.
How to Use This Tool
- Type the value you want to convert.
- Choose the unit you have in the From list.
- Choose the unit you want in the To list.
- Press Convert and read the answer and the table of every unit.
How the Calculation Works
Every unit is stored as a multiple of one reference unit (the kelvin). To convert, the value is multiplied into the reference unit and then divided by the size of the target unit. Temperature uses formulas with an offset, not a simple multiplier, so the tool converts through kelvin.
Worked Example
| You enter | You get |
|---|---|
| 1 °C | 33.8 °F |
| 10 °C | 283.15 K |

| 1 Celsius | 274.15 K |
| 1 Celsius | 493.47 °R |
Common Uses
- Weather forecasts and cooking temperatures from other countries.
- Science and engineering work in Kelvin.
- Oven settings in recipes.
- Medical readings of body temperature.
Tips and Common Mistakes
- Water freezes at 0 °C (32 °F) and boils at 100 °C (212 °F) at sea level.
- To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, multiply by 9/5 and add 32.
- Use the table under the answer to see the same value in every unit.
