Coding Dude home page: a searchable directory of 37,000 developer tools with category sidebar

Finding the right tool, library or tutorial usually means a dozen searches and a pile of half-useful lists. Coding Dude puts them in one place: a free, searchable directory of 37,049 developer resources, organised into 14 main categories and 52 sub-categories, from web development, programming languages and AI to databases, DevOps, mobile, security and freelance work.

This page walks through the whole directory, category by category, with the real size of each section, what is inside it and a few genuine entries from each. Counts are taken from the live directory. A resource can appear under more than one category (a Docker tool written in Go, for example), so sub-category counts do not add up exactly to their parent.

Pick a path: who uses it, and how

  • A beginner learning to code. Start in Learning & Docs: MDN Web Docs, free books and open computer-science courses, then pick a language under Programming and follow its tutorials.
  • A web developer choosing a stack. Compare the framework sub-categories (Angular, Vue.js, React, Node.js, Laravel, Symfony, Flask) and see what libraries and templates exist before you commit.
  • A mobile developer. Browse iOS, React Native, Flutter and Android side by side; the entries show what libraries and sample apps each ecosystem offers.
  • A data or AI builder. Use AI & Automation for machine-learning libraries, generative-AI tools and LLM resources, and Databases for storage, SQL playgrounds and admin tools.
  • A DevOps engineer or sysadmin. Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Monitoring and Linux hold deployment tooling and reliability reading; Hosting & Cloud lists services with free tiers.
  • A security learner or tester. Security separates penetration-testing tools from defensive tools and reading. Use offensive tools only on systems you own or have written permission to test.
  • A freelancer or job seeker. Jobs & Freelance lists marketplaces by country and job boards for AI, blockchain, Kubernetes and more.

Search tips

  • Search the technology name (“docker”, “graphql”, “postgres”) to match names and descriptions together.
  • Combine a category with a keyword: choose Security, then search “scanner”.
  • Use sub-category pills when a main category is huge, such as Programming with 13,570 entries.
  • Check the tags on a resource page to jump to similar entries.

Where the data comes from

Most entries are collected from open-source “awesome” lists on GitHub, where developers maintain categorised links by topic: about 25,000 entries point to GitHub repositories, and the rest link to thousands of other sites such as documentation hubs, blogs, courses and vendor pages. A small featured set at the top of the main list (GitHub, Vercel, ChatGPT, Claude, Figma, MDN Web Docs, Regex101, Cloudflare, Google Search Console) is picked and described by hand.

Entries are grouped into the categories above using the lists they came from, which is why a resource can carry several tags.

Be aware of the limits

  • Coding Dude is a discovery directory, not a ranking or review site. There are no user ratings.
  • Imported descriptions can be short or terse; open the original site before relying on a tool.
  • Some projects come from older lists and may be archived or unmaintained. Check a repository’s recent activity and licence.
  • Commercial tools are marked in their descriptions where the source list says so; always check current pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Is Coding Dude free?

Yes. Browsing, searching and saving resources need no sign-up and no payment.

How many resources and categories are there?

37,049 resources in 14 main categories and 52 sub-categories at the time of writing. The directory grows as lists are updated.

Where do the resources come from?

Mostly from open-source awesome lists on GitHub, plus a small hand-picked featured set.

Does a resource appear in only one category?

No. A resource can be tagged under several categories, so the same tool may show in, say, both Docker and Security.

Are the entries reviewed or rated?

They are not rated. Featured entries are hand-picked; the rest are organised from their source lists, so judge each tool on its own site.

Can I save resources?

Yes. Use the bookmark on any card and find the list under My Saved. Saved items are kept in your browser.

How do I add a tool?

Use the Submit a Resource form. Submissions are reviewed before they are published.
