PushPro vs LaraPush: Two Self-Hosted Push Platforms Compared

COVER // PUSHPRO VS LARAPUSH: TWO SELF-HOSTED PUSH PLATFORMS COMPARED

LaraPush is the product that started everything for me. When I first went looking for a self-hosted web push notification solution, LaraPush was one of the first results — and the architecture was exactly what I wanted. Self-hosted, one-time purchase, built on Laravel, runs on your own server. No monthly fees, no subscriber limits, no third-party infrastructure.

The problem was timing and budget. At that point, the price was not something I could commit to. I was evaluating options for a new project and needed to make the decision quickly. LaraPush was right on the concept but the number did not work for me at that moment.

My response — because I am a developer — was to build my own. That is PushPro. It was not built to compete with LaraPush; it was built because I needed the same kind of tool and had the skills to build it myself. But now that both exist, the comparison is worth making honestly.

What LaraPush Gets Right

LaraPush is a mature, well-engineered product. It is built on Laravel, which means it runs on any standard PHP/MySQL hosting environment and has a codebase that Laravel developers can read and extend. The feature set is comprehensive — subscriber management, segmentation, campaigns, automation, analytics, and multi-site support from a single installation.

The one-time purchase model is the core selling point: you pay once and own the software. No monthly fees, no subscriber caps, no pricing that escalates as your site grows. For a business that is planning to use push notifications for years, the economics of a one-time purchase compared to monthly SaaS fees are compelling — particularly once you have a large subscriber base.

LaraPush strengths:

  • Mature product with years of development and refinement
  • Laravel-based — clean, modern PHP codebase
  • Comprehensive feature set including multi-site management
  • Regular updates and active development
  • One-time purchase with lifetime updates on the appropriate licence tier

Where LaraPush Has Constraints

Price point

LaraPush is priced as a premium script. For developers and businesses that have the budget, the one-time fee is reasonable given what you get and the years of development behind it. For independent site owners, bloggers starting out, or developers who need a proof-of-concept before committing budget, the upfront cost can be a barrier.

Technical setup requirement

LaraPush requires a proper Laravel hosting environment — PHP 8.x, Composer, a MySQL database, and a server configuration that supports Laravel’s URL rewriting. This is standard for developers but not trivial for less technical users who manage their own hosting. The installation is well-documented, but it is a developer installation flow rather than a one-click setup.

WordPress integration depth

LaraPush has a WordPress plugin for integration, but it is primarily a bridge between WordPress and the standalone LaraPush installation — not a native WordPress plugin that runs within the WordPress environment. For heavily WordPress-focused deployments, the two-system architecture (WordPress + separate LaraPush installation) adds some operational complexity.

PushPro: Built for the Same Use Case, Different Approach

PushPro was built to solve the same problem as LaraPush: a self-hosted push notification platform with no per-subscriber fees and full data ownership. The architectural choices I made are different in a few areas:

WordPress-native integration

PushPro has a WordPress plugin published on WordPress.org — the official plugin directory — that integrates tightly with WordPress. The subscriber management, notification sending, and analytics run within WordPress itself or alongside it in a way that feels native to a WordPress administrator. Site owners who run WordPress do not need to manage a separate application installation.

Accessible pricing

PushPro is available at a price point designed for independent developers and small site owners, not just established businesses with software budgets. The core platform is accessible without a large upfront commitment.

White-label mode

PushPro includes a white-label dashboard mode that allows agencies to offer branded push notification services to clients. The client sees your branding, not PushPro’s. This capability makes PushPro a viable option for web agencies adding push notifications as a service.

The Honest Assessment

LaraPush is the more mature product. It has more development history, a larger feature set for complex use cases, and the Laravel codebase is a quality foundation for customisation. If budget is not a constraint and you want the most feature-complete self-hosted push notification solution available today, LaraPush is the credible choice.

PushPro is the right choice when: you are WordPress-first and want native WordPress integration, you need a white-label solution for an agency deployment, your budget is more limited, or you need a quick setup without a full Laravel hosting environment configuration.

Neither is a bad choice. They solve the same core problem — self-hosted web push without SaaS fees — with different implementations and different price points.

Who Should Use Which

Choose LaraPush if:

  • You have a Laravel hosting environment already configured
  • You need the most feature-complete self-hosted push platform available
  • Budget is not the primary constraint
  • You need advanced multi-site management at enterprise scale

Choose PushPro if:

  • You run WordPress and want native WordPress integration via the official plugin
  • You need a white-label solution for agency deployments
  • You want a lower price point for the same self-hosted model
  • You are an independent developer or site owner rather than an enterprise team

Quick Summary

  • LaraPush and PushPro solve the same core problem: self-hosted web push with no SaaS fees and no subscriber limits. The architecture approach and price point differ.
  • LaraPush is more mature, feature-complete, and Laravel-based — better for teams with Laravel experience and enterprise-scale requirements.
  • PushPro is WordPress-native (official WordPress.org plugin), includes white-label dashboard, and is priced accessibly for independent developers and agencies.
  • Both are legitimate choices; the right one depends on your stack, budget, and white-label requirements.

LaraPush was the product that made me think “this is the right model.” PushPro is the product I built when the pricing did not work for me. If you are in a similar position — or if the WordPress-native integration or white-label capability matters — PushPro is the alternative worth evaluating.
