COVER // CLINICPLUSPLUS VS JANE APP: CLINIC MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE COMPARED

Jane App has one of the best-designed interfaces in the clinic management software category. If user experience design is your primary criterion, Jane is difficult to beat — the booking flow is clean, the practitioner schedule view is intuitive, and the patient communication tools feel thoughtfully built rather than functional afterthoughts.

I spent time with Jane during my evaluation phase. The design impressed me. What did not work for the clinics I was targeting were the same constraints that eventually led me to build ClinicPlusPlus: cloud-only architecture, per-practitioner pricing, no prescription management, and billing features that are not designed for South Asian GST compliance. Jane is built for North American and UK healthcare — it shows in the product in ways that are hard to work around if you are operating outside those markets.

Here is the full comparison.

Jane App: The Case For It

Jane’s reputation is built on three things: interface design, ease of use for practitioners, and the online booking experience. The practitioner experience in Jane — moving through the day’s schedule, accessing patient charts, documenting sessions — is genuinely smooth. It is one of the few clinic systems where practitioners who are not particularly comfortable with software adopt it without significant resistance.

The online booking portal Jane provides is patient-facing and well-designed. Patients book appointments through a customisable booking page, receive confirmation and reminders automatically, and can access their intake forms online. For clinics that prioritise the patient experience, Jane’s booking portal is a significant selling point.

Jane strengths:

  • Best-in-class interface design for ease of practitioner use
  • Polished online patient booking portal
  • Excellent patient communication features (automated reminders, recall messages)
  • Strong telehealth integration
  • Active development with regular feature additions
  • Strong reputation in Canada, USA, UK, and Australia
  • Good SOAP note and clinical documentation features

Where Jane App Has Limitations

Per-practitioner pricing

Jane charges per active practitioner per month. The pricing is reasonable for a single practitioner or a small practice, but scales directly with headcount. A clinic with eight practitioners pays eight times the base per-practitioner fee. For larger multi-practitioner clinics — particularly those in markets where revenue per appointment is lower than in North America — the monthly cost becomes a real consideration.

No prescription module

Jane does not include prescription management. For clinics that prescribe medications — general practice, some specialties — prescription handling is a separate workflow outside Jane’s scope. This is not unusual for allied health software (which was Jane’s primary market), but it limits applicability for general practice clinics that need a single integrated system.

Cloud-only, North America and UK billing focus

Jane is cloud-hosted on servers in Canada (with options for EU hosting). Patient data is on Jane’s infrastructure. The billing and invoicing features are built around North American and UK formats — they are not designed for GST compliance in South Asian markets or for the invoice formats required by different tax jurisdictions outside their primary markets.

Telehealth focus may not apply to all markets

Jane has invested heavily in telehealth functionality — a feature that became critical during 2020-2021 and remains important in North American and UK markets. For clinics in markets where in-person care is the dominant model and telehealth regulation is still developing, this investment in Jane’s feature set is not relevant to the purchase decision.

ClinicPlusPlus: Different Market, Different Features

ClinicPlusPlus was built for small-to-mid-size multi-practitioner clinics with a focus on South and Southeast Asian markets, where the operational requirements differ from North American and European healthcare software assumptions. The key differences in where ClinicPlusPlus focuses its feature investment:

  • Prescription integration: Issuing and tracking prescriptions from within the patient record and appointment workflow, without a separate system
  • GST billing: Invoices generated in GST-compliant format with correct tax codes for South Asian markets
  • Offline operation: The system runs on the clinic’s local server and functions without an internet connection
  • Flat clinic pricing: One licence per clinic, not per practitioner — the cost does not increase as the practitioner roster grows
  • Pharmacy/inventory module: Basic inventory management for clinics that dispense medications or supplies

The Interface Design Question

I want to be direct about one area where Jane is genuinely better: interface design and practitioner experience polish. Jane has invested significantly in UX, and it shows. The day schedule view, the patient chart access flow, the documentation interface — all of these are more refined in Jane than in ClinicPlusPlus.

ClinicPlusPlus is functional and usable. It is not at Jane’s level of interface polish. If practitioner experience is your primary evaluation criterion, Jane is the better product in that specific dimension.

What ClinicPlusPlus offers in exchange is the set of features and deployment model that Jane does not: prescription management, offline capability, GST billing compliance, flat per-clinic pricing, and data sovereignty. The trade-off is real, and which side of it matters more depends on your clinic’s specific situation.

Who Should Use Which

Choose Jane App if:

  • You operate in Canada, USA, UK, or Australia
  • Interface design and practitioner experience quality is a primary criterion
  • You need strong telehealth capabilities
  • You do not need prescription management or GST billing compliance
  • A fully managed cloud system with excellent support is more important than data sovereignty

Choose ClinicPlusPlus if:

  • You operate in South or Southeast Asia with GST compliance requirements
  • You need prescription and pharmacy management in the same system
  • You need offline operation capability
  • You have multiple practitioners and want pricing that does not scale per practitioner
  • You need patient data on your own infrastructure

Quick Summary

  • Jane App has the best interface design in the category and excels for allied health in North American and UK markets. Limitations: per-practitioner pricing, no prescription module, no offline capability, billing not designed for South Asian markets.
  • ClinicPlusPlus has prescription integration, GST billing, offline operation, flat per-clinic pricing, and data sovereignty. Less refined on interface polish than Jane.
  • The right choice is primarily a market and feature question, not a quality question — both are well-built products for different audiences.

If Jane fits your market and the feature set matches your clinic’s workflow, it is an excellent product. If your requirements point toward the features ClinicPlusPlus prioritises, the details are here.
